Small leather bound account book of constable William Browne with "The Province Ratte", "Thomas Crosbey Ratte", "The Woode Ratte", "The Assembly men Ratte", and "Mr. John Cotton Ratte" for 1709. Entries include lists of the tax payers and their tax rate as well as handwritten copies of the warrants for the collection of taxes issued by the Hampton selectmen to William Browne.

William Garrott Brown was a historian, biographer, and essayist, of Marion, Alabama, and Cambridge, Massachusetts who graduated from Harvard College in 1891. From the guide to the William Garrott Brown papers, 1898-1917, (David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Duke University) Brown (1868-1913) taught history at Harvard and served as Deputy Keeper of University Records at Harvard.
